Ejae, the Korean American singer-songwriter best known as the voice behind “KPop Demon Hunters” heroine Rumi and the hit song “Golden,” is stepping into the spotlight as a solo artist. Her debut single, “In Another World,” will be released on October 24, marking a new chapter in her career as both performer and composer.

๐ŸŽต “In Another World” — A Song Close to Her Heart

Ejae describes her debut single as a deeply personal track — one that reflects her journey of self-discovery and healing. “Writing songs is a form of therapy for me,” she said during her press conference in Seoul. “Golden gave me strength, and I realized that when it comes to songs that personal, I should be the one to sing them. In Another World is one of those songs.”

๐Ÿ’ซ From Trainee to Composer and Artist

Before her breakout moment, Ejae spent over a decade training at SM Entertainment, one of Korea’s leading agencies. Though she initially prepared to debut as a K-pop idol, her path shifted toward songwriting and production — a foundation that later shaped her artistry and musical authenticity.

๐ŸŽฌ The Story Behind “Golden” and Her Connection to Rumi

Ejae’s track “Golden” became a viral sensation for its powerful message of self-acceptance and perseverance. The emotional depth of the song stemmed from her personal connection to Rumi, the main character of KPop Demon Hunters. “Rumi and I are a lot alike,” she said. “We’re both perfectionists who push ourselves to overcome weaknesses. When I was a trainee, I was told my voice was too husky. I tried to change it, but eventually, I learned to embrace it — just like Rumi.”

Interestingly, Ejae originally wrote “Golden” as a potential K-pop group track. “Even without the movie, I believed it could’ve been a hit,” she said with a smile. “If I hadn’t sung it, I think Ailee would’ve done it perfectly.”

๐Ÿค Dream Collaborations in K-pop and Beyond

As she embarks on her solo journey, Ejae shared her dream collaborations. “In K-pop, I’d love to work with Aespa — I think my sound fits their style. And of course, working with BTS, especially Jungkook, would be an incredible honor.” On the Western pop side, she added, “I’d love to write or sing with Dua Lipa or Sabrina Carpenter someday.”

๐ŸŒ Ejae’s Vision for K-pop’s Global Future

Beyond her debut, Ejae reflected on the direction of K-pop’s globalization, emphasizing the importance of staying rooted in Korean identity. “K-pop is about showing Korean culture,” she explained. “It’s okay to mix Western sounds, but the heart should stay Korean — that’s what makes it special. It’s about fusion, but keeping the core intact.”

With “In Another World”, Ejae is not just launching her solo career — she’s reaffirming her identity as both an artist and storyteller. Her journey from trainee to composer to vocalist mirrors the very resilience that her songs celebrate.
