Social media has been buzzing with posts claiming that G-Dragon would hold a free solo performance at Cheomseongdae to commemorate the upcoming 2025 APEC Summit in Gyeongju. However, the rumor has now been officially debunked by the city government.
⚠️ Viral Post Claims “G-Dragon Free Concert” at APEC Venue
Since early October, several posts and blog articles have circulated online, claiming that G-Dragon would perform a special outdoor concert at Cheomseongdae on October 31 — just before the APEC summit. The posts described the event as a “once-in-a-lifetime performance against a UNESCO World Heritage backdrop”, complete with drone shows, fireworks, live bands, and K-pop collaboration stages.
It further claimed that some areas would be open for free viewing, while VIP seats required “pre-registration,” linking to a suspicious website collecting personal data.
๐️ Gyeongju City Confirms — “No Such Event Exists”
On October 26, Gyeongju City’s APEC Preparation Support Team issued an official statement on its social media channels, saying: “The so-called ‘G-Dragon APEC 2025 Cheomseongdae Concert’ is fake. There are no plans for such a performance, and any pre-registration or ticketing information is entirely false.”
The city emphasized that the viral posts were not authorized or connected to any official APEC event and warned residents and fans to avoid clicking registration links or sharing personal details.
๐ Fake Links and Data Phishing Concerns
According to local reports, the fake registration link directed users to a third-party website requesting names, phone numbers, and addresses. Cybersecurity experts have cautioned that the site could have been part of a data phishing scheme targeting unsuspecting fans eager to attend the “concert.”
๐ Fans Book KTX Tickets in Confusion
The hoax had real-world effects. Several KTX routes from Seoul to Gyeongju on the morning of October 31 reportedly sold out after the rumor spread. Some fans even took time off work to travel to Gyeongju, believing they would witness G-Dragon’s “APEC performance.”
Adding to the confusion, G-Dragon is scheduled to hold encore concerts in Taipei on November 1 and 2, making it logistically impossible for him to perform in Korea the day before.
๐ฌ Public Reaction and City’s Response
Despite the city’s clarification, many residents criticized Gyeongju officials for their slow response. Comments on local community boards read: “The post’s been around for over a month — they should’ve responded sooner,” “My friend even took leave because of this,” and “It never made sense to hold such a massive event in front of Cheomseongdae.”
City officials also confirmed that an earlier proposal for a large-scale fireworks display had been canceled due to safety and crowd-control concerns. Instead, they are planning a smaller cultural performance for residents following the APEC summit, with details to be announced soon.
In the wake of this incident, Gyeongju City urged citizens to verify information through official channels before sharing or registering for any events related to APEC 2025.
