G-Dragon has been officially recognized for his unparalleled influence on global K-pop culture. The BIGBANG leader received the Order of Cultural Merit (Jade Crown, Okgwan) at the 2025 Korea Popular Culture and Arts Awards, held Thursday at the National Theater of Korea in Seoul. The honor marks one of the nation’s highest distinctions in the arts, acknowledging decades of artistic contribution and international impact.

🏆 G-Dragon Receives Jade Crown Order of Cultural Merit

Hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, this year’s ceremony celebrated 31 recipients across music, film, drama, comedy, and voice acting. G-Dragon joined veteran voice actor Bae Han-seong (“The Simpsons,” “Tom & Jerry”) and the late comedian Jeon Yoo-sung as recipients of the Jade Crown Order — one of the top three levels of cultural recognition in South Korea.

Other top-tier awards included the Silver Crown, presented to veteran actress Kim Hae-sook (“The Handmaiden,” “Thirst”), and the Precious Crown, awarded to Lee Byung-hun and Jung Dong-hwan for their long-standing contributions to globalizing Korean media.

🎤 A Reflection on a Lifelong Dream

Visibly emotional yet poised, G-Dragon reflected on his artistic journey during his acceptance speech:

“The first place I remember going, holding tightly onto my mother’s hand, was an audition hall when I was around six years old. Since that day, I’ve been dreaming the same dream ever since.”

“In my teens, I dreamed of becoming a singer — and that dream came true. In my twenties, I received a commendation, and in my thirties, I was awarded the Jade Crown Order. So I have high hopes for my forties.”

“There are so many senior artists who made me dream. They were shining stars to me every single day. I grew up listening to their songs, and now I’ve become one of those stars myself. Every day feels like a dream come true.”

The speech drew warm applause from the audience, with many praising G-Dragon’s humility and the deep emotional resonance behind his words.

🌟 Celebrating Excellence Across Korean Entertainment

The awards ceremony recognized achievements that contributed to the global expansion of Korean popular culture. From acting legends to next-generation idols, this year’s honorees represented the full spectrum of the Hallyu wave’s evolution.

Dance crew Bebe opened the ceremony with an energetic performance set to “Golden” from Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters and G-Dragon’s “Too Bad,” setting the tone for a night dedicated to the artistry and innovation behind Korean entertainment.
